Guides dressed in period clothing lead you by candlelight throughout
the farm. Your first stop will be at a rustic cabin where preparations
for an 1890’s Christmas season will greet you. Delight in the sight
of the Christmas Putz, a Moravian tradition of placing the crèche
and a miniature village complete with houses, stores, people, animals,
and scenery under a decorated tree. At the barnyard a living Nativity
scene, complete with the animals, will inspire families and bring
the true meaning of the season to life. In the Granddaddy Cabin
the another story will warm hearts and, as the tour continues in
the reconstructed 1893 one room schoolhouse, visitors can join in
with the Carolers singing Christmas songs. In the1780’s cellar kitchen
folks will find out who was ‘naughty or nice’ when the Belschnikel,
a traditional Pennsylvania German figure, pays a visit! Your visit
of Christmas Past will end in our Engel Education Center with complimentary
refreshments. And don’t forget to browse in our Gift Shop filled
with beautiful, hand crafted items.
Experience an old-fashioned Christmas, from a time before the advent
of bright lights and toy commercials, where the light of twinkling
of stars and lanterns guide you, the noises you hear are the soft
mooing of the cow and the sweet voices of carolers, when the best
Christmas gift of all was from the heart and not the store. Come
join us at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm as we celebrate the
holiday season with a candlelit Christmas.
