Down on the Farm - - -

  • Spring/Summer Garden Tenders - Help in this area is always needed especially as we get into the weedier part of the summer!
  • Junior Volunteer Program - Full! - for Quiet Valley members 13 and up. This is a chance to be more involved on the farm in the summer, helping with chores, exploring the history of Quiet Valley, learn about heritage crafts and trades, and about museums and tours. There are a limited number of spots available for responsible young men and women.
  • Tour Guides - Adults who are interested in learning more about this special opportunity should contact Cheryl Statham or Deb DiPasquale to get further details. You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy this job!

Summer Highlights - - -

  • Heritage Craft Demonstrators - If you have a heritage craft skill you are willing to demonstrate during summer tours please contact me to get on the schedule.

Please contact Deb DiPasquale with any questions about these volunteer opportunities or others you may think we need. Remember - Quiet Valley can’t succeed without our wonderful volunteers. You can reach me at deb@quietvalley or 570-992-6161.

Harvest Festival Happenings

Everlastings

The eves of the Oiler garage are filling up with dried flowers. Now we need help from our talented volunteers to turn these dried flowers and weeds into everlasting arrangements for Festival.

Donations of dried flowers that you may be growing in your yards and gardens such as hydrangea, money plant, roses, yellow yarrow, statice, pampas grass, or baby’s breath are always appreciated and welcomed. Please contact Ellen Oiler at by E-mail or 302-428-1389 for further information or questions.

Thursday Arranging Workshops:
Workshops will be held on Thursday’s in September to create the dried flower arrangements, wreaths and swags that will be sold at Festival. Dried flowers, containers, wreath bases and other supplies are provided. All you need to bring is your creativity and lunch. No formal instruction is provided during these workshops, but several very talented and faithful volunteers are typically on hand to lend a creative eye and/or suggestion.
• Workshop Dates: 9/2, 9/9, 9/16, 9/23, 9/30
• Time: 10 am- 2 pm
• Location: Top of the Oiler’s Garage

Weed Bunching Party: Thursday, 10/7
Help is needed the Thursday prior to Festival to make weed bunches. If you’re not sure that you have the skill or creativity for making arrangements but have always wanted to try, then making weed bunches is a perfect opportunity! 80-100 bunches are needed to fill the rafters of the Open Front Barn, so all weed bunchers or weed buncher want-to-be’s, are welcomed!
• Time: 9 am- 4 pm (or any portion of this time)
• Location: Open Front Barn

Barn Set Up & Halo Base Making: Friday, 10/8
On the Friday prior to Festival, volunteers are needed to relocate all of the arrangements to the Open Front Barn and create Sweet Annie halo bases. Sweet Annie halo’s are always a big hit and have made Sweet Annie the farm’s #1 cash crop. Having the bases made in advance, helps to ensure that our halo decorators can keep up with decorating demands during Festival. No halo base making experience is needed, but Sweet Annie is quite fragrant, so if you have allergies this might not be the best pick for you.
• Time: 9 am- 4 pm (or any portion of this time)
• Location: Open Front Barn

Clean Up: Monday, 10/11
The Monday after Festival we need help to clean up the Open Front Barn area and top of Oiler’s garage so that we can put everything neatly away for the winter. This helps to keep Pa Oiler happy… need I say more?
• Time: 9 am- 1 pm (or any portion of this time)
• Location: Open Front Barn

Miscellaneous:

It pays to shop Weis Markets – and it can pay Quiet Valley. In 2009, Weis Markets, Inc. donated over $450.00 to Quiet Valley because you members turned in your Weis Markets cash register tapes to the farm. So far this year, we have received over $260.00. Please keep turning in your Weis receipts (sorry, the Lincoln Ave., East Stroudsburg store receipts are not accepted). They very generously donate a percentage of their sales to non-profit organizations such as us. Thanks to you and thanks to Weis Markets! Please either drop off or mail your slips to:
